BPEC Solar PV Mapped Course Information

PLEASE NOTE: 

  • This course does not include any practical training, this is a theory based course only.
  • AET WILL REQUIRE COPIES OF THE PRE-REQUISITS BELOW BEFORE CONFIRMATION ON THE COURSE.

For MCS registration: Trainees must hold a formal craft qualification either:
N/SVQ 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures)
Or equivalent level 3 technical certification that includes Inspection & Testing units / 2391 inspect & Test initial verification
( As some technical level 3 qualifications do not include inspection & Testing we would require 2391 initial verification or equivalent)
All Trainees must also hold a BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification.

Trainees can also enrol for the course if they meet the requirements of the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS).

NON MCS registration: You can attend the course on a Defined Scope basis where you will receive an attendance certificate only. Trainees will require at least level 3 technical qualification, 18th edition and good knowledge of testing & inspection.

Trainees can enrol for the course if they meet the requirements of the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) and have a minimum 2 years’ experience with demonstrable evidence as well as being a member of a Competent Person Scheme (CPS). NICEIC, NAPIT or equivalent.
Such a course is a requirement of the Minimum Technical Competency document for PV installers and is recognised by the MCS operators as evidence of suitable training.

The 4 day solar course will enable candidates to select the most appropriate solar Photovoltaic system for a property to meet the client’s needs and to commission and handover the system. It will also provide an understanding of all the legal issues surrounding the installation of these systems and guidance on completion and submission of all the appropriate notifications.

The 4 day training will cover the following points:

  • Photovoltaic panels in context of renewable technologies
  • How a Photovoltaic system works – principles and components
  • Design of a PV system
  • Installation of a PV system
  • Commissioning and Client Hand Over
  • Maintenance and Fault Finding
  • Control and power requirements System commissioning and handover to client

IMPORTANT NOTE: The course delivery is split over 3.5 days. This includes 3 days theory and half day practical assessment on day 4 and 5. Based on the maximum of 8 delegates on the course:- 2 delegates will be attending in the morning and 2 in the afternoon on day 4 and 5

BPEC Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS) Course Information

This course has been designed to meet the requirements of dedicated electrical energy storage systems (EESS) in accordance with the IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems and the MCS Battery Standard MIS 3012.

The installation of these EESS is work that can be carried out by competent, qualified operatives holding appropriate pre‐requisite qualifications and the aim of the training course is to ensure individuals have the knowledge and required skills to carry out this work.
The training manual will serve both as a means of learning, as well as a tool of reference for future use.

Pre-requisites
The training/assessment course is targeting candidates with the following background:

  • N/SVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures)
    or
    Level 3 formal craft qualification that includes Inspection & Testing
  • All trainees must have BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification.

    Trainees can also enrol for the course if they meet the requirements of the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS).

Course Objective:
The EESS course is specifically aimed at existing practicing electricians, electrical technicians, and engineers with experience of electrical installations, and associated inspection and testing and giving them the necessary training to upskill their existing skills to install EESS.
The objective of this course is for learners to demonstrate they know and understand the requirements for installing EESS.

The learner will know the health and safety risks and regulations and standards relating to the installation, testing, and certification/handover of EESS systems.
